Please provide an HTML testcase that demonstrates the problem, or at least give the specific URL of a page where it occurs.

(This might be a case where the page style is calling for a heavier weight than standard "bold", and DirectWrite recognizes more font weights than GDI did and therefore can honor such requests more accurately.)

As I suspected: it looks like the page in the URL above is using <b> tags within an element that is already styled as "bold" (the <td class="alt1">). So the result is that you get "bolder" text, which under DirectWrite resolves to Arial Black.

Not a bug; just a case of poorly-implemented web design.
