User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.2; WOW64; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 Build ID: 20110615151330 Steps to reproduce: 1. Turned on Menu bar 2. Customise -> dragged Search toolbar and located it to the right of the menu bar (the problem is the same if placed elsewhere) 3. Customise -> dragged Bookmarks toolbar and locate it on the same line as the Search toolbar (the problem is the same whether it is placed to the right or to the left of the Search toolbar) 4. Customised the Bookmarks toolbar to contain only one bookmark 5. Tried changing the width of the Firefox window 6. Optional: added one more bookmark to the Bookmarks toolbar 7. Optional: disabled the Bookmarks toolbar Actual results: 4. The Bookmarks toolbar was replaced by a >> button, as if there isn't room for the toolbar. Clicking on >> temporarily displays the toolbar. Also, an extra, blank line is shown below the urlbar, containing nothing. See attached screenshot. 5. Changing the width of the window makes no difference. The Search toolbar adapts to the available width of the window, apparently cramming out the Bookmarks toolbar. 6. If one more bookmark is added to the toolbar, the pre-existing bookmark becomes visible, while you have to click on >> to access the new bookmark. 7. Disabling the Bookmarks toolbar doesn't disable it, but the extra, empty line under the urlbar disappears. Expected results: The Search toolbar should shrink to provide room for the Bookmarks toolbar, if the window is wide enough. There shouldn't be an extra, empty line below the urlbar when the Bookmarks toolbar is enabled. Disabling the Bookmarks toolbar should actually disable it.

Appears to be specific to WinXP, as I do not have this problem on a different computer running Win7. (Both are x64.)
OS: Other → Windows XP
Hardware: All → x86_64

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:8.0a1) Gecko/20110707 Firefox/8.0a1 I can see your point and I can reproduce this on WinXP X86, but IMO this is the intended behaviour. Asking for a second opinion.

(In reply to comment #2) > Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:8.0a1) Gecko/20110707 Firefox/8.0a1 > > I can see your point and I can reproduce this on WinXP X86, but IMO this is > the intended behaviour. Asking for a second opinion. This is not the intended behaviour, because: A. It behaves differently (correctly) in Win7. B. If you add more than one button to the Bookmarks toolbar, all but the last button are displayed; that is, if the Bookmarks toolbar contains three buttons, the first two are displayed, if it contains two buttons, the first one is displayed, and if it contains one button, zero buttons are displayed. The Search toolbar changes its width according to this behaviour. C. The extra, empty line under the urlbar (when the Bookmarks toolbar is ticked as activated) does not make any sense. D. It doesn't make any sense that if the Bookmarks toolbar is unticked, it is still active, but the extra, empty line under the urlbar disappears. My current workaround is to put an extra button that I don't want in the Bookmarks toolbar (which doesn't get displayed, but which causes the one button I do want to be displayed), and to untick the Bookmarks toolbar (which is supposed to deactivate it, but which doesn't, it just removes the empty line).
