User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 Build ID: 20110615151330 Steps to reproduce: 1) receiving mails with attachments 2) forwarding old mails with attachments, marked as such within Thunderbird window (via the known paper clip icon) Actual results: 1) the attachments were missing in the mail as it was displayed in Thunderbird, they were missing without even the slightest hint towards their original existence (other than being mentioned in the body of the message verbally) BUT they were included in the copy of the mail (imap) on the server and could be retrieved from there 2) upon forwarding old mails with original attachments these mails arrived but without said attachments and at the same time the attachment mark was removed in the Thunderbird window (ie the paper clip icon disappeared) Newly added attachments, ie added from within Thunderbird 5.0, appear to behave normally. Expected results: this behaviour clearly started upon download/install of Thunderbird 5.0, I am that sure since I am receiving mails with attachment all the time.
Can you share one of those emails for analysis so we can figure out what was the mail structure we didn't forward properly ?
I have forwarded a mail with attachmnet separately, as requested. The enclosed powerpoint shows screenshots of 1) my thunderbird window, where the attachment is not indicated (it also is missing in the mail if I open it) and 2) the same mail on the server with the (downloadable) attachment. Said mail was sent via Mac OS 10.6.7/Apple mail 4.5 to my Apple 10.6.8/Thunderbird 5.0. I should like to add that I can send mails with freshly included attachments alright, but resending/forwarding mails with attachments from my backup a) deletes the attachment within my Thunderbird (at least they are not visible longer) and b) said attachment does NOT reach the recipients. To me, this looks like an incompatibility of TB 5.0 with earlier TB versions. Best regards Siggi

Summary: attachments get lost upon reception AND forwarding old mails → attachments get lost upon reception AND forwarding old mails multipart/related
I can confirm this bug. multipart/related attachments are no longer shown as attachments. This is probably fine for included images referenced from HTML, but causes problems when the attachment isn't referenced. To be clear: unreferenced attachments within multipart/related are not displayed inline or in the attachments section. Given that some mail agents will use multipart/related (incorrectly) to include both related and unrelated parts, there needs to be a way to access these attachments.
I have checked this issue with OSX 10.7.1 (Lion) and Thunderbird 7.0 and the problem appears to be gone. Siggi Engelbrecht (Oct 6, 2011)
