If I click List and then Edit on one of my days off, I can theoretically edit the number of hours I'm taking. Great. The trouble comes when I try to choose 0 (for which there's a dedicated radio button). Submit, and the following kaboom occurs:

Oh noes! The following fields weren't in the right formats!

  hours
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Same problem if you try for a 0-hour PTO day at the initial submission, which is valid if you want to observe a public holiday later than normal because of work travel.
Ran into this today too.
FWIW, according to HR, this is a wontfix. :-/

Well, not exactly a wontfix. The current state ("0 hours" option available and non-functional) is not what we want.

Either the option should be removed, or it should work. It sounds like HR is saying it should be removed, right?
Well, I was going to use that feature to take back a PTO day - originally I wasn't going to work today but then I decided to, so I tried to edit my hours to 0. I think it's a valid feature for this reason.....unless there's a "whoops nevermind I don't want to take that day off" feature I don't know about?

(and there's another bug I ran into if anyone's interested - 775673 - basically today I have 12 hours PTO put in even though I'm working a full day. *facepalm*)

Correct.

Peter was working on a new version of the PTO app a while ago, he might be able to elaborate on how it'll work in the future.
Well, the immediate problem was "I put in for a day of PTO but now I'm actually working, because I've been out a lot lately, so how do I change that?" that should be clear on the site, no matter what....apparently the answer is "e-mail HR", which I've done......
The old PTO won't be changed or fixed at this point. We're getting closer and closer to launching the new app and there, hopefully all problems with be blown away.

The new app will not have an EDIT feature. Your only way to "edit" will be to add a new entry of PTO **on top of an existing** entry.

By default, 0-hours will not be an option to chose from. Only Full day, Half day or Birthday are valid options. HOWEVER, if you intend to make a new entry on top of an existing day, then 0 hours will be an option and that's the equivalent of undoing an entry.

Peter - thanx!

So how will the use case that Daniel eluded to be handled - that is, we're on travel or have meetings, etc... during a regularly scheduled holiday, and wish to observe it later that week or another day?

(Of course, we could just communicate this with our managers, which is what I'm sure most of us do, but it would be easier if the PTO app allowed us to submit it so that others wondering about our availability would be able to check).

Not entirely sure what the question is.
With the new app you can only record when you're taking non-working time off (which goes onto your pay stubs). You can not and will not be able to record that you're not available but not on holiday.

I think I understand what you're eluding to and the PTO app will not cater to this. You mean things like "comp time".
Recording time off that you still get paid for opens up a bucket of employment legality rules.

Essentially, yes. But, really only in the case of paid holidays observed at a later date.

I understand. We'll just have to deal with it, then. :)
Ok let's open this back up.

Suggested fix:
- make 0 hours valid (for birthday etc.)
- but don't email Payroll about it because it's not actionable

Looks good to me (PTO for 0 hours can also be used to inform ppl of "at a conference" or similar)

The UI is such that I also thought I could remove PTO by adding in another PTO, for the same date, but with 0 hours. Which is why I ran across this in the first place...it's unrelated to making 0 hours actually work, but we do want some way to remove PTO if we ended up not taking it.

That's bug 1029229.
