Please create a fresh profile, does that fix the issue? http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles if not, please give more information. like what websites you were going to when this happened. etc.

At all it shouldn't depend on what websites I visit. If that would be the case, that would be a bug.

It's still a problem with Firefox 6.
It's still a problem with Firefox 7.0.1 and Ubuntu 11.10.

This bug happens numerous times a month for me. I can't say what triggers it, however just restarting the browser "fixes" the issue. Since the bug seems to "randomly" appear after a while, it's not easy to rule out what causes it. Thus, it's hard to test whether creating a new profile really helps, since, in the first moments of using that new profile, the behavior (regarding moving tabs) will be the same as when you would have restarted the browser instead.
To comment #8 I should have added the fact that, at that time, I was using Firefox 8.0 on Fedora Linux.

I still sometimes have this problem with Firefox 11.0 (and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS).
My addons are: Adblock Plus 2.0.3 NoSquint 2.1.5 SearchPreview 5.4 Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 2.0.1 UrlParams 3.0.3
Does the issue reproduce in Safe Mode? if not, could you try disabling your add-ons one by one to catch the one that causes this?

I am using Firefox 15.0.1 on Ubuntu 12.04. Tabs still can not be moved sometimes (e.g. right now).
I just able to reproduce it again, in Firefox 20 beta 6.

Just able to reproduce this bug again in Firefox 31 Aurora.
Still reproducible, Firefox Next 38.
Still reproducible in Firefox Next 43b1.

Not reproducible anymore, at least for me.
