671186 - thunderbird hangs after moving imap mails, reading moved mail takes hours, redownloads messages

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/12.0.742.112 Safari/534.30

Steps to reproduce:

- slow connection (DSL 1Mbit)
- I moved some messages on my imap account (around 160)
- What to read one of the moved messages
- Waited 2 hours 

I use Windows XP 32bit and Windows 7 64bit, Problem occurs on all plattforms - even on ubuntu linux.

(- folders are regularly compacted)


Actual results:

- thunderbird seems to not open the message, just stupidly downloads all the other ones in the folder


Expected results:

TB should priorise download of messages:

P1 : Userinteractions -> Klick on message -> Instantly show it (e.g. text only, than html, than attachments ...)

P2 : Background -> e.g. Download after moving messages, or new messages

yes i can.

1MB DSL Thinkpad T60 (WinXP 32bit or Win7 64bit) 2GB Ram

1. Open Thunderbird (either portable or installed)
2. Move some Mails in IMAP Account (e.g. 100) from Inbox to folder called Archiv/2011
3. Go to Archiv/2011 try to open a mail which is not already in Thunderbird local cache
4. wait and wait and ...

My suggestion is to devide the download queue into 2 parts as told above.
This way operations can be done in background, while the user is able to work further on the mails needed

I forgot to mention, i use this profile since thunderbird 1.4 or 1.5 (do not really know anymore), the problem was in Thunderbird 2 too.

If the problem reproduces with Thunderbird 6, please get an log of

mhmm the problem has been significantly reduced - currently i'm not sure how to reliable reproduce it

hi,

for sure - i assumed you know thunderbird 6 is used, as you asked explizitly for that version.

I use Thunderbird 6.0.2 DE on Windows 7 64bit DEU
