Details

I removed the bookmarks entry from my sidebar. When I attempted to add it back, it never appeared and the 'customize my sidebar' dialog box never responded after clicking OK until I clicked cancel. I exited mozilla and restarted - no bookmarks in the sidebar. I clicked the tabs-customize sidebar button. Dialog box appeared and bookmarks was in the right hand column but did not appear in the sidebar. If I add the search component to the sidebar it appears, but not bookmarks.
