On Basecamp, there was a fairly detailed discussion about building a friending / following system into the MDN user dashboard. Thoughts are outlined here. Jay: "Follow: people the user is following and the people that follow them" Janet: "I think following and liking are the social concepts that make the most sense for MDN. A person’s activity should generate a feed, which you can follow, much like a following a page or a topic. And you should be able to 'like' any activity (even 'soandso reviewed page blahblah'), as a way of showing appreciation. I think likes should feed reputation, but follows should not (I might follow someone because their work is not always good)." Jay: "I think the following is something we need to encourage people to connect and collaborate... so when it comes to finding someone to ask a question to or watching the activity of a particular person to see what they're working on and contributing, the follow feature will be good for that." Sheppy: "FWIW, I don't care about friending and following. The important stuff is the activity feed and the interest management. :)" Jay: "[In Craig's latest mockup], I think having the followers above the badges and interests is fine, but we should swap them for the profile (see below)" Craig noted that his latest mockups placed "less emphasis on friending/following"

In a meeting I had with Jay last week, he expressed a special interest in us deciding what exactly it means to follow a person. What do we think? Do we think we are able to reach a consensus at this point?

This is important, but it seems that we could live without it until after MDN 2.0 if we really needed to. I would mark it as "P 2.5" if I could.
