User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:5.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0.1 Build ID: 20110707182747 Steps to reproduce: Press spacebar one or more times on a long page (taller than the viewport) to scroll down. Actual results: Nothing until I jiggle the mouse. Expected results: Scrolling down without having to generate a mouse event.

Any example URL? Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

It happened at http://www.randsinrepose.com/archives/2011/07/29/the_desktop_transition.html just now. You might have to experiment with alt-tabbing to other windows, etc, to make it happen. I haven't been able to reproduce the bug reliably. Don't know about safe mode behaviour; I will see about trying that, although it seems it would be hard to confirm that an intermittent bug is absent.
