When the tabs pane has only one column of tab thumbnails, the swipe gesture required to reveal it and make it stick is about the length of the half of the width of the pane, which is about half a centimeter.

When there are two columns, I still try to swipe only half a centimeter, but since the width of the pane is twice as big, when I release the gesture, the pane hides again.  The make it stick, I need to make a gesture twice as long as usually.

I suggest that this gesture is always the same length (the short one, .5 cm), which would work better with the muscle memory.
