User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0 Build ID: 20110615151330 Steps to reproduce: Close my laptop cover while Firefox 5.0 is active. Actual results: Firefox freezes when laptop is next opened. I can still use other applications, but somewhat sluggishly. Using Windows Task Manager, I "End Task" Mozilla Firefox and things return to normal. Mozilla Session Manager correctly recovers the session. Even if I wait several minutes, Mozilla Firefox remains hung until I "End Task." Expected results: No crash, I presume.
Does the issue still occur if running Firefox in Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

Summary: Crash occurs when laptop case has been closed for some time. → Hang occurs when laptop case has been closed for some time.
Yes, I get the same result in Safe Mode. Specifically, I put Firefox into Safe Mode, closed my laptop. Sometime later, I returned, opened the laptop, and observed the problem. I should add that on opening the laptop, Firefox works for perhaps 30 seconds. Then it freezes up. The Windows screen turns pale, indicating a hung program. Waiting for several minutes fails to fix it. The behavior is consistent. Closing the laptop always causes the problem, and it's always necessary to "End Task."
The only available option if safemode/new profile doesn't help is to create a stack trace of the hang with Windbg. - https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_WinDbg Attach the stacktrace using the "add an attachment" link above.
Thanks for your help. Based on a sample of exactly one trial, a new empty profile works. To preserve my environment, I believe that I can copy files and folders from the old profile to my new one. Copying all of them would be ideal, but I assume that one or more are somehow corrupted, which would result in perpetuating the problem. So I probably should experiment with selective copying. One question: Copying the old profile restores toolbars, tab groups, etc. But "Tools / Session Manager" is missing from the new environment. Is it necessary to reinstall the Session Manager?
Yes, if that is an extension you should reinstall it. Please post if you find the file that causes the problem.
invalid if it's an addon (for now) if you have found that firefox is at fault, please reopen.
