Currently the Firefox Aurora for Mobile links to the Wiki page. Why not link directly to the *.APK? Information on the Wiki page is already available below the download button (the only relevant information in the Aurora subsection I see is the sys requirements, which is already linked on the former page).

We need directions as to what to do with the APK. This link to the wiki was a stop-gap solution as there wasn't time to update the page with the appropriate instructions.

Is this something product marketing should weigh in on?

Jaclyn - we're interested in no longer maintaining the https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Aurora page. Can you drive getting this page updated with a direct link to the APK (as with nightly) and some instructions?
Hey Alex - Grace and I are already looking into it on on how we can link directly to the apk on our Aurora product page. The design bug in the works: Bug 715726 Chrissie/Grace - feel free to add in on what the progress is and what we're planning on doing with the new responsive design Thanks
Renaming for clarity, so we can have a redirect set up - if this works for Alex/Aaron? Setting as depends on Bug 715727 and assigning to Steven.

Seeing if we can get this into next weeks release, 1.6. Steven - let me know how that sounds, and also note, it will of course depend on Bug 715727.

If we can get the final design and implement (Bug 715727) - we probably wont need this. since the qr code will direct to the apk. If we are unable to implement bug 715727 in the next couple of weeks, getting the download button to direct to the apk (as suggested in this bug), would be an easier and faster fix (good comprise for now) and hope that they know how to install third party applications. please let m know if you have any additional questions. thanks!

Is there a permanent URL that will always provide the latest aurora for android build? What's the on wiki now looks to be build-specific: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-android/fennec-12.0a2.en-US.android-arm.apk

(In reply to Steven Garrity from comment #9) > Grace, can you address comment #8? per akeybl, it needs to be like https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/ and have a variable in product-details that gets changed for the Firefox Aurora mobile version alex, can expand on that if you have any additional questions.

Yeah - basically we won't have a single URL to point to. It'll need to be like the rest of the nightly/aurora/beta/release download pages and construct the URL based upon the version specified in product-details.

Can we get someone to help build this into the product-details library? It's not something I'm really able to do myself.

(In reply to Steven Garrity from comment #12) > Thanks Alex. Can we get someone to help build this into the product-details > library? It's not something I'm really able to do myself. I just tweak the product-details but I'm not sure how to make/reference new additions. Including James/Anthony as they were active in bug 647678 which accomplished something similar in the past.

So the final solution is to link directly to the APK? Alex, there's a function in product-details that constructs the download URL, and it just needs to be tweaked to respect your vars.

James, what would that link look like? Can we get shortened version of that link for bug 715726? Thanks!

I'm kind of curious why this is taking just over half a year? Reason I ask is it's a real hassle to direct our (mobile) small but growing community of Aurora testers to direct links and not directly from mozilla.org where one may find every other version of Firefox available. What's so difficult about this?

Grace, I'm still not clear on where to get the actual download link. I see there's a http://bit.ly/fennec14a short link on the wiki - should we just use this and we'll update manually every release update?

akeybl - can you point us to where we should be grabbing the apk files from? And how often do we have to update this Aurora site with a new link?

For the short term, we can get away with: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-android/fennec-14.0a2.en-US.android-arm.apk A little more flexible of a solution would be: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-android/fennec-{{alpha_version}}.en-US.android-arm.apk sourced from product-details/mobileDetails.class.php. In the long term, we'll want to use an Aurora bouncer link (bug 731299).

Also, I'd like to clarify the title: * https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/aurora/ should point directly at an APK, not to the wiki page anymore * https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Aurora should only redirect to an APK if we think that's being linked to externally
