Steps to reproduce:

Highlighted a term and chose

"Search Search the web for..."


Actual results:

It opened the following url

http://127.0.0.1?[my query]

So for example

http://127.0.0.1/?Firefox


Expected results:

Should have used the Search the web feature as if I typed in the word in the search field.

Additional Information: Hosts file is empty
Doing the right click search when any other search engine is selected works
Searching from within the search box using "Search the Web" works

I'm not sure. The "Search the Web" is a new feature which just updated with the beta a few minutes ago. It seems to be choosing the Search Engine on its own. Sometimes its Google, Sometimes its bing. I don't know much about it, since its very new.

Almost sounds like you've got a broken search engine in the list. Go to "manage search engines", and see if there's something there called "Search" that's causing this?

Don't have that.

The "Search the Web" thing is apparently this user study:

As said earlier, it works when I use the search bar directly though.

Can you try to reproduce this on a clean profile?

As suggested in Comment 4, your custom search list could be broken,  so if trying to reproduce the issue with the default list will narrow the results. Thanks
