Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0a2) Gecko/20110803 Firefox/7.0a2 Build ID: 20110803042010 Steps to reproduce: Every time I start up Aurora since the 2011-08-02 update, the "Search the Web" option has always been at the top and always the one selected. Despite the fact I've moved Google to the top (which is simply the option I prefer), and made that one the one selected. Actual results: It will always be "Search the Web" rather than Google every time a new session is started. Expected results: Google should be the search option selected, and it should be at the top of the list where I moved it after using "Manage Search Engines".

I think your Firefox may have been hijacked in one way or another. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/762963 "Search the web" is not among the standard search engines in Firefox. Bug 676080 comment 5 even suggests this search engine comes from the Mozilla Labs Test Pilot. Have you participated in any Test Pilot studies? Please post the Extensions part of about:support. Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode How about with a new, empty profile? https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

Excerpt from http://blog.mozilla.com/meeting-notes/archives/617: We broke Google “search the web” — related to user study and Omnibar extension http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/?q=search&product=firefox&version=6.0&sentiment=sad&date_start=2011-07-26
I did agree to some test pilot survey on Aug. 2 when I noticed the problem started to appear, and "Search the web" didn't appear in safe mode.
