User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/5.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; FDM; .NET4.0C)

Steps to reproduce:

TB is configured to download an RSS feed over https which requires authentication. Password manager saves the password, yet still an "Authentication Required" box appears once per session. (Is this another bug?)

Steps to reproduce:
(1) Launch Thunderbird
(2) Drag an email message from the Inbox to a folder
(3) If the "Authentication Required" dialog for the RSS feed pops up WHILE dragging a message to a folder, Thunderbird freezes and must be killed with Task Manager.

TB 3.1.11, Windows 7, 32-bit this bug existed in prior versions as well.

livingfield, doe sthis also reproduce when (updated to) using version 6? If it does, we could use a stacktrace attached to the bug per https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_windbg (replacing Thunderbird for Firefox in the instructions)

I installed Thunderbird 6.0 on a "new" Windows XP SP3 machine and copied my old profile over.

The bug still exists in Thunderbird 6.0, so I updated the version number in the field above.

@Wayne -- I'll work on getting a trace uploaded.
OS: Windows 7 → Windows XP
Version: 3.1 → 6
I've uploaded a stacktrace per the instructions above. The problem still existed on TB 6.0.2 running on WinXP SP3.

BUT now I've "solved" the problem. Read on for complete details.
I'v been using one Thunderbird profile for years, often copying it between Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Most often these days I'm using Windows 7, but I was slow to upgrade from TB 3.1.x

Then recently I had some traveling to do (part of the reason for my slow response), so I decided to take along an ultraportable with Windows XP SP3 and TB 6.0. I copied my TB profile to the laptop. Problem was still there.

I arrived back home, copied my profile to my regular Windows 7 machine and updated to TB 6.0.2. I'm not sure exactly when, but Thunderbird no longer prompts for authentication. It is using my saved passwords as it should have been doing all along.

In order to make the stacktrace, I went back to the Windows XP ultraportable (with my profile that is now 2 weeks out of date). The problem was still there with TB6.0. I updated to 6.0.2, and the problem was still there (I've attached the stacktrace.) But then I copied my current profile from my Win 7 machine to the WinXP ultraportable, and TB no longer prompts for passwords.

SO, it seems I no longer have an issue. I assume it's not that the freezing issue is solved--there is still a bug, but I'm unlikely to encounter it since the Password Manager has quit prompting for me to OK my passwords.

For the past few months the Password Manager has been prompting me for RSS passwords again. I don't know what caused it to begin reappearing. (These days I'm copying my profile between Win7 and Ubuntu.)

I just tested today using TB 11.0.1 on Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 and it did not freeze.
I also tested with TB 11.0.1 on Win7_64 and IT FROZE SOLID.

I understand others may have trouble reproducing this crash, but I can do it with my profile folder at will.
