Otherwise it can be a bit confusing,
highlight matching text during searches? Mouseover? Need more info.

In the title, it's said "search".
It seems like the matching text does indeed get highlighted now in 21.0a2 (2013-02-22) on OS X 10.8.2. I think this can be resolved.
Yup, they were highlighted way long back. And now CodeMirror made it even more powerful with highlighting all matching strings.
