Instead of flyers, we're going to make a generic business card all college recruiters can hand out during career fairs. We'd like help with the design of the card. We like this design for one side but need the layout adjusted to fit a 3.5" tall x 2" wide card (it also has rounded edges): http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Affiliate%20Program/RECRUITING/PNG/recruiting_160x600_red_1.png
So this would be a taller card, rather than a traditional card that is wider than it is taller - if that makes sense...
The backside of the card should include
Company name: "mozilla"
URL: college.mozilla.com
e-mail: college@mozilla.com
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your help with this!

Hi - just wanted to make sure someone will be assigned to this bug. I know you guys are really busy but Julie is leaving on PTO for two weeks and I want to make sure we have something for her to see before EOD next Wednesday, if possible.
Thank you,
Kimber

Hey hey ! thanks for the ping.
So, as long as this isn't intended to replace our/your official business cards, that's fine. We can do a generic card to simply hand out with the general college@mozilla email address for more information vs. having this feel like actual official business cards. we're in the process of rebranding those materials and want to make sure this is more of a special use case and a limited run vs. a new piece in our corporate identity.
sound good to you?

Hi guys--
No problem I can help with this.
Is there any graphic style you had in mind here? If not, I'll take the cue from the speaker, notebook, etc. graphics we did for the recruiting earlier this month and send you a few ideas.
Also--will this business card be printed double sided or single sided? Thanks!

Hey Rhonda - thanks for helping out with this! The initial bug description has the link to the art there is what we want on the front side of the card. And we would also like the college.mozilla.com URL included on the front somewhere. (Anywhere you think it would fit well after the re-sizing of the art is done)
Details for the back side of the card are also in the initial bug description.
Let me know if other questions come up! :)
Thanks!

Good questions. Generally speaking I think you can take inspiration from those other projects you did, but I have a few other thoughts that may help:
- sounds like the main branding here is Mozilla, not Firefox. That makes this trickier b/c we have fewer graphic elements to work with and a less defined visual style.
- Kimber, are you ok with us including the Firefox logo as an element? The example in comment #0 uses it, and I think that works...the text on the card could be all about Mozilla, but the Fx logo is very powerful and makes an impact.
- visually, I would encourage you to use those subtle background stripes we have on mozilla.com. I wouldn't use the blue color palette of the website, though, but we've used them with other colors as well...check out the example from comment #0 or http://blog.mozilla.com/userresearch/. I think the color palette from the example in comment #0 might work well for this.
- the universal Mozilla tab (check it out on mozilla.com or the blog I just referenced) could be good here. Not essential if it doesn't fit the design, but keep it in mind. (I have files for that and the stripes if you need them.)
Let me know if you want to discuss further...thanks!

John - absolutely we are good with keeping the Firefox logo! What we had in mind was simply taking that art (from comment #0): http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Affiliate%20Program/RECRUITING/PNG/recruiting_160x600_red_1.png
and re-sizing it to fit a business card. And putting the college.mozilla.com URL in there somewhere. I think those were the only changes we were thinking, though if you guys suggest others I know we are open to them.
John - do the background stripes work for you as they currently appear in the art?

Rhonda - would you mind keeping this project on hold until Wednesday/Thursday? It was suggested we should go with a different color/design: http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Affiliate%20Program/RECRUITING/PNG/recruiting_160x600_blu_2.png
We should have this figured out a bit later this week. Thanks for your help and I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused.

So we decided that we'd actually like to go with this version of the card: http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Affiliate%20Program/RECRUITING/PNG/recruiting_160x600_grn_2.png
+ We would like to take out that yellow box section at the bottom that says "Work for Mozilla" - so basically just cut the card off before that.
+ We would still like the card re-sized to be 3.5" tall x 2" wide.
For now, let's work out the design and once that's done, I may need your help with the other side with our contact info / content.
Thank you,
Kimber

Hey Kimber--
If I can get lee tom's editable file for the recruiting card art above it will be much faster for me to make it into a business card--providing it is high enough resolution for print. In any event I'd like to see if I can work directly from the editable file. Can I get a link to that?
Thanks!

Looks like there may be some pdf artifacts in the Fx logo, but otherwise looks very good.
Does the Mozilla part go on the back, then? Seems like it might be crowded to add it here, but it should be on the card somewhere.
Kimber, what do you think?

Comment 17•14 years ago

We took the "work for Mozilla" part off because it seemed to look cleaner without and I also really like the way it looks now that it's re-sized. I do think it would be good to have it somewhere on the back instead (a mini-version perhaps). Could we have it say "Join Mozilla" as opposed to "Work for Mozilla"? It feels more inviting - and more encompassing of different types of student involvement (thinking about the student reps program here since we many have people ask about this when we do the career fairs).
Also, I am wondering about the front and why there is a period after "And a better web" since it's not a full sentence since there is also one after "Build your career" - should we just keep the one after "And a better web" or was there a reason for having two? Sorry to get all picky...
| Assignee | ||
Comment 18•14 years ago
|
||
hey guys--
the type was just carried over from Lee's artwork, but I will take the first period out of the sentences.
Also--I will need to recreate the yellow arrow with the "work for mozilla" inside as it was originally created in low resolution for a web banner. I'll work on this and get a proof back to you tomorrow afternoon.
thanks--

I'd be fine with replacing Work for Mozilla with something else, but we're already using Join Mozilla for our membership campaign (mozilla.org/join), so I'd rather avoid confusion around what that means.

Okay, in that case I'm fine with leaving it "Work for Mozilla"
Also - is a period even needed on the front after "Build your career and a better web"? It might just be fine to leave them off entirely. Thoughts?

I tried a few different ways to emphasize the "and", because we are already using a very bold font, making it even bolder wouldnt work but here are a few ideas:

Hey Rhonda - met with the rest of the team and here are a list of changes / additions we'd like to have done:
1. We all liked the 2nd version with the italics. In the yellow arrow on back, instead of "Work for Mozilla" we would like it to say "Connect with Mozilla"
2. Content-wise, here are the things we want included on the side with the arrow - Perhaps you can devise the most attractive day to display them?
Mozilla College Recruiting [this would be the title/header on the back]
E-mail: students@mozilla.com
Web: college.mozilla.com
YouTube: MozillaStudents
Twitter: MozillaStudents
IRC: #students (irc.mozilla.org)
3. We are actually going to need two versions of the card made. They will be exactly the same except 1 will not have the e-mail: students@mozilla.com listed.
Thank you, Rhonda! And let me know if you have questions about our requests.

The second version we would just leave off the email and move everything up and centered.

Julie and I are having a hard time seeing the white font - is there an alternative font color we could use that's a bit more visible? Or, if we can have some flexibility on the font and use something that is a bit thicker and more visible with the white that might help.
We felt the "RECRUITING" stands out too much. Is it possible to see a version where "Mozilla College Recruiting" is all the same size and another where that text is removed completely?

Hey Kimber--
There are a couple of options here:
http://www.intothefuzz.com/rhonda/moz_recruiting_bus_cards/moz_recruiting_bus_card2.jpg
I should preface that these are low resolution JPGS, they wont be blurry on printing, if that is what is influencing your decision on the font, I can send you the high resolution version, they are just really really large.
We are of course limited to Meta and Georgia for our font choices.
Take a look and let me know what you think--if you want a high resolution version just say the word.

Thank you for sending the revisions so quickly. We want to go with the third option that still has the "MOZILLA COLLEGE RECRUITING" at the top - it looks great!
If we can get the versions that are ready to go to the printers, I think we should be all set (one with the e-mail, and one without).
Thanks!

Hi Rhonda,
Thanks a lot for your prompt response. Sorry that I have to make some changes to the request.
1. Timeline: we will need it by end of Aug. Our first trip to campus is Sep 11th and we will need some time to print the cards.
2. Change "Mozilla College Recruiting" to "Mozilla University Recruiting"
3. Please change the main color and design if possible. I uploaded the roll-up banner we are using this year. It can be some reference point when you redesign the card to make them be of the same theme family.
4. We will keep the content as below
Web:https://mozilla.org/university/
Email:students@mozilla.com
Thanks

1. For "Build your career and a better web", I prefer the layout on the old card or any similar design that is prettier and easier to read.

3. Can you please take out "YouTube:MozillaStudents"
