It is agreed that the search UI could be more usable, more beautiful and more complete. We will also need to change it for some bugs that ask for new features, so instead of adding more and more stuff to this interface we should redesign it.

lonnen also thought something like the chosen JS library could provide a good way of doing this: http://harvesthq.github.com/chosen/

Bug 480503 is *by far* the most important bug to fix here.
It's a MAJOR regression for more than 2 years now.
I assure you, Firefox stability is suffering because of it.

Please put that bug on the top of your list of bugs to fix.

Better name is better. The design part was taken care of in bug 844793, this tracker is about the overall work on that page. 

Note: this is my big Q3 goal, all bugs listed as blocked should be marked RESOLVED FIXED when this one is.
