http://cl.ly/060Z1M132w003I372B0q Rather than lie saying we have thousands of add-ons for all these other apps, we should change the message for non-Firefox to: Welcome to Thunderbird Add-ons. Add extra features and styles to make Thunderbird your own. And while we're at it, let's change Firefox's to: Welcome to Firefox Add-ons. Choose from thousands of extra features and styles to make Firefox your own.
That only addresses part of bug 678797, so it's not a complete duplicate. This does not address the Mozilla.org add-ons pages issue: All the add-ons are lumped together - Firefox add-ons in the Thunderbird section and vice-versa. When I'm searching for Thunderbird add-ons, I ONLY want to to see Thunderbird add-ons. When I'm searching for Firefox add-ons, I ONLY want to to see Firefox add-ons.
Add-ons aren't lumped together. When you browse addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird you will only see add-ons that work in Thunderbird. When you browse addons.mozilla.org/firefox you will only see add-ons that work in Firefox.
I don't think that's completely true: On the TB Add-ons page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/), on the far right under Most Popular, #1 is AdBlock Plus. The description for ABP doesn't say which app it's for, but I thought it was a FF app, not TB. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/adblock-plus/?src=hp-dl-mostpopular I don't see any need for AdBlock in Thunderbird - I've never seen popups or unwanted junk when using ThunderBrowse. I've been using ABP in FF for quite some time, but never thought about adding it to TB because it's never been needed. The #2 Most Popular is Personas Plus. The description for PP says "Personas are free, easy-to-install "skins" for Firefox." https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/personas-plus/?src=hp-dl-mostpopular The #9 Most Popular is FoxyProxy Standard. The description for FPS says "FoxyProxy is a Firefox extension..." https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/foxyproxy-standard/?src=hp-dl-mostpopular FoxyTunes is listed under Featured Extensions. The description for FoxyTunes says "FoxyTunes lets you control almost any media player and find lyrics, covers, videos, bios and much more with a click right from your browser." Thunderbird is not a browser, although you can browse using the ThunderBrowse add-on. The description doesn't say which app it's for, but it appears to be a FF add-on, not TB, and yet it too is on the TB add-ons page. Do you see how confusing this can be? I'm looking for TB add-ons, and keep getting what I think are FF add-ons that should not be on the TB page. I think it would be VERY helpful to a lot of people if the developers were required to list on the add-on's page, which apps and versions their add-on is compatible with. I thought this used to be on every add-on's page, but it's missing now for nearly every app I looked at, including: eCleaner - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/ecleaner/?src=hp-dl-upandcoming FlashGot - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/flashgot/?src=hp-dl-mostpopular Some of them, such as Enigmail (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/enigmail/?src=hp-dl-featured), say which apps they're for ("OpenPGP message encryption and authentication for Thunderbird and SeaMonkey"), but fail to say which versions of those apps they work with.
The compatibility information is in the Version Information at the bottom of the page. The add-ons you mention that aren't useful actually do support Thunderbird -- the main bug you're reporting there is that our Most Popular section ranks based on total users, not users specific to the application you're looking at.
This needs a soonish milestone.
