hi tara. wanted to revisit this bug. do you think we can review some tshirt design by this week? fine with getting tshirt with just Aurora logo as initial design depending how much time we have right now. will also love to hear any ideas you have regarding other swags. thanks!
Comment 2•13 years ago

Hey Grace! So, we definitely can't have a unique t-shirt design whipped up in one week :) Need more heads up for that. but we an certainly do a basic Aurora t-shirt with the existing logo etc. Do you have a sense of what you'd want it to say? Other thoughts we bounced around: * Stickers - easy * Aurora plush ball / pillow (always a crowd pleaser! or maybe it's just me) * Something that glows int he dark? * Aurora branded computer gear (not sure what this would be) has to be somethign cool and not just your typical logo printed on random junk swag. * Aurora desktop background?

For starters, I think an Aurora logo t-shirt and an Aurora logo sticker in the same style of the existing Firefox materials would be good. Would that work for this immediate request?
Comment 4•13 years ago
Just to be clear, that's all I was committing to for this immediate request :) the rest were just random ideas. I can have one of our designers mock up the t-shirt this week.

I like it. Almost looks like I'm looking at the window of a spaceship and seeing the Aurora planet. Which reminds me, it should say Aurora somewhere on this :) the back? Otherwise, I like it!
Comment 7•13 years ago
I'm slightly concerned that the black ring will be construed as being part of the logo itself. Re: the Aurora name, the back should read Firefox Aurora with the appropriate URL (can be a redirect, like mozilla.org/aurora) on there. Grace, what works best for you?
Comment 8•13 years ago
the ring was added because the logo has transparency with the sun glow upper right and it would be difficult to replicate in a screen print.

(In reply to Sean Martell from comment #8) > the ring was added because the logo has transparency with the sun glow upper > right and it would be difficult to replicate in a screen print. can we do it in a black t-shirt then? or a darker purple or blue (like the dark blue firefox/mozilla shirt we have)?
Comment 11•13 years ago
we can, sure, but you still need an artwork outer edge on the logo to nest the glow as it is a gradient with transparency. the artwork area should be opaque for print.

Did we come to a conclusion regarding the black outline on the logo? Also, did we figure out what the URL or tagline is going to be? what's the copy on the ticker/t-shirt?

for the link i was thinking aurora.mozilla.org in terms of copy, im adding matej for recommendations or suggestions. thinking along the lines of.. being a part of the future of firefox?

Some options. In all cases I'm assuming these will follow the wordmark, otherwise they should have Aurora or Firefox Aurora in front of them. The future of Firefox today. Help shape the future of Firefox. Help shape the future. Experimental. Unstable. Awesome. Experimental. Innovative. Awesome. The latest features first. New features first. The dawn of a new Firefox. Firefox rising. Firefox rises.

Awesome Ty, would really love to have the stuff ready and printed by mozcamp. do you think we can review some initial designs soon? Ideally, it would be great if we can finalize the design by next week so we have a week or two for printing. jaclyn and i have been brainstorming a few ideas: option 1: Experimental. Cutting-Edge. Awesome (front) logo (back) options 2: logo at the back - copy: Shape the future of firefox have fun and play with it a few options. i think it would be great if we can find have something a bit more fun and bolder :) let me know if you have any questions. thanks!

I'm a +1 on the second design. We use basic Meta for many of our shirt designs and I love how the second design breaks from that. Using meta simply on the back for the wordmark is perfect. Great job!

Also, I think the Aurora logo is good at the size it is, but the artwork on the front could be brought down by and inch or so.

These sticker PNGs are not an indication of the final size. Theyre 3" x 3" which is the same as what we have done for previous sticker designs.

hi ty! these looks amazing! can we update the link to mozilla.org/firefox/aurora for the stickers. i like sticker design #2. Thanks!
Comment 36•13 years ago
(In reply to Grace Jimenez :grace from comment #35) > can we update the link to mozilla.org/firefox/aurora Just out of curiosity, why would we want to do that? Seems like a lot to ask people to type, not to mention it looking unwieldy, especially when aurora.mozilla.org goes to the same place. If there's some reason we don't want Aurora at the beginning of the URL, could we use mozilla.org/aurora instead?

It was my request, b/c aurora.mozilla.org isn't consistent with the strategy outlined at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/brand/website/domain-strategy/. Also, I'd really like Firefox to be in there somewhere. What about mozilla.org/firefoxaurora? Or firefoxaurora.org? We'd have to buy that last domain and set up redirects for either, but that should be pretty simple. (note: I vote for the former)

i like mozilla.org/firefoxaurora - it has mozilla and it's brand consistent with firefox aurora rather just aurora. i can request the redirect set up. do we need to buy that domain (mozilla.org/firefoxaurora)? I was talking to John about eventually having a longer discussion about how, when and where we use URLs, but in this case I definitely think mozilla.org/firefoxaurora is more inviting.

(In reply to Matej Novak [:matej] from comment #39) > I was talking to John about eventually having a longer discussion about how, > when and where we use URLs, but in this case I definitely think > mozilla.org/firefoxaurora is more inviting. personally i like aurora.mozilla.org as well just because this resonates to our community using nightly. however, with that being said, there's only 88K adu in nightly. which is pretty small. we want to grow firefox aurora and reach potentially up to 250K this quarter and most of these users are probably not super familiar or attached to the nightly.mozilla.org link, so i think this is an opportunity for us to make them familiar with whatever URL format we decide is the best. plus.. i also would like to make sure we follow the goal of the new brand URL structure mozilla.org/subdomain. i am opening a bug to get mozilla.org/firefoxaurora redirected to the aurora page. if you have any additional ideas definitely feel free to add other options there as well. ty, let's go with mozilla.org/firefoxaurora for now. thanks everyone!

hi ty, i was reviewing the design with Patrick earlier. would it be possible to have another option for the t-shirt design? we are thinking maybe just the Firefox Aurora logo in front of the t-shirt (similar to the sticker) leave the sleeves the way they are and maybe keep the back blank? we want to have the option to have a more simplistic design for the puropose of this project, having just the firefox aurora logo would create a stronger brand awareness and affiliation. when do you think you can have the alternate option? thanks!
Comment 47•13 years ago
I think the earlier design is really striking...will we still print that one?
Comment 48•13 years ago
Agreed with comment 47, would be a shame if we're not going to use the design Ty did. Grace, could you please clarify? If it's a matter of having two options (stylize and simple) that's fine, but if you've changed direction to just a simple shirt... then that's different.
Comment 49•13 years ago
Just to echo the above, I'd also really hate to lose Ty's design. Would be a shame to go a generic route when we have something so good.
Comment 50•13 years ago
+1 to keeping Ty's design for this. We can come up with alternates at a later date. Eventually I'd like to see more "logo-only" tshirts made with several of our logos, but I think that could be part of a bigger project where we make a full set similar to the Whistler 2010 character multiple color set.
Comment 51•13 years ago
Grace, sounds good to you? I also think that a more stylized design makes the shirt feel special vs a generic "slap the logo on a shirt" type of swag.
Reporter | ||
Comment 52•13 years ago
hi all, i definitely think that the current design has a more "cool" factor than the generic logo. However, for the purpose and scope of this project, i feel that the firefox aurora generic design route will optimize our goal of brand awareness. I was planning of getting both of the design printed for other upcoming events. adding patrick to the thread for his additional feedback.

hi all, just fyi. in order for the shirts to be printed and get to Berlin for mozcamp, we need to get the design for the tshirt to the printer by noon PDT tomorrow. would really love to get the generic firefox aurora logo design in as well, in addition to the original design. i really think the firefox aurora logo design would be the most optmize option for this purpose thanks again.

re: stickers tara, where did we order the stickers and buttons from fx4? thanks!
Comment 55•13 years ago
Hey guys. I spoke with Grace and it seems best to do two shirts...the text-based one Ty has already done and a more straightforward logo one. The logo one can be on the current color, or another like dark grey or black. It can follow the basic sizing and style of our standard Firefox logo shirt. I'd like to avoid the heavy black ring around the logo from comment #5, though.
Comment 56•13 years ago
We'll have to edit the logo perhaps as the black ring was added to take into account the transparency with the glow + sunrise on the planet. Should we create another version of the logo for swag or do we have a vendor who can print with transparency?
Comment 57•13 years ago
Let's definitely not change the logo for the sake of this shirt. Couldn't we just use a black shirt?
Reporter | ||
Comment 58•13 years ago
contacted the vendor. they said they can print with transparency although, they still suggest the black ring around the logo. if we are using the same art work as seen at the back of the current shirt, I can also just let them know what size we want the logo (how much bigger) and won't need to send them brand new file. if you can please confirm, as the vendor would really like to start the process today and get us a proof as soon as possible. thanks!
