I can't get the free text search to return any results using any Reason strings. I have tried with other strings not just the examples in this bug.

Are we sure the Reason field is indexed and searchable and that this is a valid test case?
The only way that I can see you are achieveing this is by building the url yourself, is that correct?
There is no UI or link that facilitates this kind of search that I can see.
Go to the advanced search page:
https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/query

Click "Advanced Filters" if the extra fields aren't shown, and you'll see the "Crash Reason" field.

The bug here I think is what is described in comment 2.  I bet the '/' in 'EXC_BAD_ACCESS / KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE'  is being escaped.

This should be fixed now, slashes are now accepted in the 'reason' field.
