Getting an update from Kev on the status of the BYOB build today.

We will supply copy for the line of greek text when the copywriter is back from PTO (on Tuesday)
Target Milestone: --- → 3.9
Hey guys,

Let me know if you want to meet to chat about this or if you need anything else from me. Copy to come shortly.

Thanks!
Chelsea
Target Milestone: 3.9 → 3.8
Can we get some info on the download button / download URL for this build? Is it en-US only? Thanks.
Hey Steven,

It is EN-US only. I'm ccing in Kev and Tomcat as they recently re-spun the build and can give you the most up to date URL.

Thanks!
C
Hey Chelsea: Do you mind filing separate bugs for the implementation of the snippets, and of the What's New page, and connecting them to this master tracking bug? That will help us track these assets better, and various other information is needed for them to go live.

How-to Details:

What's new:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Engagement/Websites/Firefox/Webteam/Content#Mozilla.org_WebDev_Resources

Snippets:
https://intranet.mozilla.org/Marketing/StartPageSnippets#Updating_Snippets_Through_The_Snippet_Service
Depends on: 678190
Depends on: 682112
Done. Let me know if any of that needs to be corrected. Thanks!
Will the build be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux?
Yes, it will be available in all three builds. Here are the tests:

https://partnerbuilds.mozilla.com/mozilla/6.0/campus
username: campus
password: Appl3

Kev will be supplying the link from releases.mozilla.org
First pass at this page is now in trunk: http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/backtoschool/

Still needs real download URLs, platform detection for the buttons, and some browser testing.
Whiteboard: r=94360 b=trunk
Looking great Steven! Do you need the download URLs from Kev? Let me know what else you need from us.
Snippet graphic is here: http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Addons/BYOB_BackToSchool/PNG/snippet_backtoschool.png

Bug here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=674378

Snippet copy: Get 4 tools for back to school in a special add-on collection for Firefox.

Thank you!
Sorry, posted this to the wrong bug.

Yes, I do still need download URLs (for windows, mac, and linux).
Getting those from kev now:

Matej did a proof and there are a couple of typos:

Download Version

Main copy should read: "This custom version of Firefox is loaded with add-ons for added productivity."

(Copy on bundle version is fine as is.)

Both Versions

Evernote Web Clipper copy: "rightfrom" should be two words

Also, I think the blurbs for the add-ons should all be on two lines, if possible (right now Evernote is on three). And in Zotero, I'd bump the word "sources" down to the next line.

Non-profit headline should be: "Above All WE DO GOOD!" Right now it has "About All..."
Hey Steven,

Update form Kev. He wants to know when you need to push by. The builds need to be finalized and staged (they're working on it now).

Thanks!
C
Typos and spacing issues from comment #13 have been cleaned up. The line-wrapping text will always vary a bit depending on platform and local display settings, but what I've got there is two-lines-per-addon in Windows, Mac, and Linux in my testing setup.

We'll need to update the URLs and then get the page through QA before it can go into production. If they don't come in the next few minutes, we'll be into tomorrow AM (we're in the Atlantic time zone).

It doesn't look like the build will be ready in time. Moving to 3.9. Thanks Steven for getting this together so promptly. We'll update the bug with the build tomorrow.

Thanks for the update! It would be very helpful if you could add the build bug to this implementation bug as a "depends on" so your whole campaign will be connected.
Hey Steven,

Kev has said that the build will be ready tomorrow a.m. so that you can finishing your coding. One thing he needs is the destination URL of the first run page. Do you have that?

Let me know and thanks for your patience!
Cheers,
Chelsea

Is there a special first-run page for this version of the browser?
Yes there is. It was included in the PSDs and PNGs http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Addons/BYOB_BackToSchool/PNG/whatsnew_backtoschool.png Mostly it's just the upper banner. The rest stays the same.

I thought was a promotion for all Firefox versions to go on the /firefox/6.0/whatsnew/ page (as per Bug 676945).
I wasn't aware of that bug. Laura, is there a conflict with this?

This page is specific to the BYOB build. I'm happy to use the same layout, so long as the content in the main box reflects the BYOB build.
Ah - I think this was my misunderstanding. It looks like Chelsea's intent was to have Bug 676945 be the custom First Run page of this byob browser - and that it should not be used as a promotion on the current GA "What's New" page.

It can get a little tricky when we use the general What's New layout as a First Run page. (to take a step back, "First Run" is shown only when someone downloads Firefox for the first time. "What's New" is shown whenever a upgrade is complete.

Chelsea - is that correct? If so I apologize in to Steven and hope it's easy to re-use the coding.
Hey laura, that is correct and I'm sorry for any confusion I created on my part. Steven let us know if that's doable.

also, if you have the URL for this first run (even if it's not coded yet), can you pass that along so Kev can get the builds completed. If he can get the URL tomorrow he can get the builds posted tomorrow am (eastern time).

Thanks!

I think I see where the confusion started. The design bug (Bug 677564) does talk about a "custom firstrun page", but the implementation bug (Bug 682112) got switched to a whatsnew page with this promo running 50/50 with the email promo.

How about http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/backtoschool/firstrun/

If you're ok with that URL, go ahead with it in the builds and we'll get it setup there.
Great. Thank you Steven. I'll pass that on to Kev.
The firstrun page changes have been done over in Bug 682112.
URLs to the builds from the landing page should follow the format below:

http://releases.mozilla.com/bts/<platform>/<locale>/<installer_file>

Where platforms are: "linux-i686", "mac", and "win32"

Where locale is: "en-US"

And where installer files are:
  "firefox-bts.tar.bz2" (linux)
  "Firefox-BTS.dmg" (mac)
  "Firefox-BTS Setup.exe" (win32)

Let me know if this creates any challenges, or if there's any additional info is required.

I'll open a separate bug for the push and make it a blocker here.
I've added these URLs along with the necessary platform detection. I presume it's a known issue the links aren't working yet?

http://releases.mozilla.com/bts/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-bts.tar.bz2
http://releases.mozilla.com/bts/mac/en-US/Firefox-BTS.dmg
http://releases.mozilla.com/bts/win32/en-US/Firefox-BTS Setup.exe

Yup. We just finalized the builds with the addition of the firstrun this am. Push request is bug 684325, and is now a dependency here.

When does the push to live happen on Tuesday? There's been a respin initiated for 6.0.2, and the bundles will need to be regenerated and pushed. A push/update time would be helpful to set expectations.
Hey all,

Do we have a push time for today? Also, Kev do we know when the re-spin is slated for?

Please let me know as I have some other components (need to press start on the AdWords campaign) waiting.

Thanks everyone for all your work on this.

Cheers,
Chelsea
Builds are sitting on the server now (see http://releases.mozilla.com/bts/), and I have access so can push the updates when they're available pretty much at the same time we release.
