User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.18) Gecko/20110628 Ubuntu/10.10 (maverick) Firefox/3.6.18 Build ID: 20110628230543 Steps to reproduce: * Go to http://www.joan.cat/moute/ (this is not mine) * Right click the link that reads "Simple connection example" or any of the two links that follow it * Select "Save As" (In my preferences, Firefox is configured to always ask me where to save) Actual results: Absolutely nothing. Not even an error message. Expected results: It should pop up a window prompting me to select where to download. (which is what usally happens with any file I download; i do it daily, it usually works fine). If the file on the server is not available or anything is wrong with the link, a meaningful error message should appear, either before or after selecting the download location. It is very possible that there is something wrong on the server side, the link may be broken, but silently failing without any response is wrong.
Here's another page that exhibits the same issue: http://docs.jquery.com/Downloading_jQuery#Current_Release Right click on any of the "Minified" links and selects "Save As". Absolutely nothing happens.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0a1) Gecko/20110927 Firefox/9.0a1 WFM for both examples. The "Save as" window is displayed as expected. Have you tried in safe mode or with a clean profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile
Now it works for me too (but I've upgraded to firefox 6 in the meantime). Thinking aout it, It is possible (not sure) that what I was experiencing was the annoying bug in gnome which sometimes (randomly) doesn't give focus to the just-created window, so, when the window has no corresponding button in the panel below the screen (as is the case with the saveAs dialog), you don't even realise that a window has been opened.
Closing then based on comment 3.
