Grace & Jaclyn,

Can we provide users with a better way to download Aurora for Mobile outside of sending them here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Aurora

1.) Wiki is less secure for downloading and there is no promise of security on that page (has anyone checked on this?).

2.) If you can gather data on the QR code that would be helpful - are people using it to download? If it's a working solution it would be something that would help users avoid the wiki page in lieu of a download button.

agree - it will also be nice if the page was prettier.
this can probably be tied to our current project of revamping the channel landing page and creating designated Firefox Aurora pages.

I replied to the email about how we are incorporating mobile in the new pages.

the reason why it's currently linked to a wiki, is becuase we needed to provide additional instructions to users downloading firefox aurora for android, so if we can provide this info in the new landing page or designated firefox aurora page for mobile, we would no longer need to link to the wiki.
Also, we are going to be limiting the number of people who can edit this wiki page to ensure security (Thomas + several other people will be admins)

Jaclyn, it might be worthwhile to learn from Thomas (someone else?) how the QR code has been working - is it a successful mechanism?

This might be a good alternative in the interim (moving the QR code to the site), so that users don't end up on the wiki page as their default experience.

Grace is right though - there's a new landing page experience in the works, and that informaiton could be lifted up from the wiki and then we could serve this experience up a little better.

Another interesting metric would be what is the drop off rate of users who click to get to the wiki page, but then do not download - potentially the result of the hackiness of the experience.

The QR code for Aurora has been quite successful. For Aurora 8, 38% of clicks were from the QR code (according to bit.ly).

+1 to adding QR code to the new updated site (note: for now, every new release means we need to upload a new QR code. would need to get a stable download link). However I wouldn't suggest moving the QR code to the current site for reasons Grace mentioned.

Awesome data gathering! <3 data-driven design for users. Keep us updated on how QR codes could be integrated into designs.

Closing as resolved, since it's not an open issue. Let's revisit when more Aurora options are available on the site.
