We had a LDAP slave that failed and we had to re-create replication.

Ah, thanks for the explanation dumitru. Since most of the devmo pages don't require login, perhaps they should stay up even if the LDAP backends go down?

This had nothing to do with LDAP replication... just a coincidence that the timing coincided.
The real issue is that we are in the midst of upgrading MindTouch from 9.12 to 10.1, and this unexpectedly necessitated a new license for anonymous access. Once that was in place, this started working again.
Resolution: WORKSFORME → FIXED
