For contributions we can continue to use an IPN, because we don't really worry too much if it goes through or not. But we'll want to call Paypal and check with them that the sale has gone through and write into the purchase table as appropriate given. After we give them the watermarked addon. This API is outlined in the section 7.4.1 SDD from PayPal.
