User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:9.0a1) Gecko/20110904 Firefox/9.0a1 Build ID: 20110904030822 Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to www.google.com with Instant activated. 2. Focus on the search input field and switch to Japanese IME with hiragana or katakana input 3. Start typing Actual results: Characters don't appear visually and aren't sent to Google for Instant search. Expected results: Characters should appear as you type them.

This also happens with ATOK2006 and IME2010 on http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-release/rev/41ea1b3fb0a9 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.1 ID:20110830092941 However, www.google.co.jp works fine.
This seems to depend on the Google Search / Interface Language (whether set explicitly in Search Settings or implied from url, location, etc...) in combination with Google Instant. 3 cases: 1. interface language is Japanese: everything works fine 2. interface language has full Instant support (English, French, Spanish, etc): buggy behavior described above 3. interface language has limited/no Instant support: input characters appear normally, Instant disabled On other browsers (IE, Chrome), in case 2, Instant & character display work fine (similar to Japanese)
Google instant search doesn't exist anymore.
