User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686 on x86_64; rv:6.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.1 Build ID: 20110830092941 Steps to reproduce: Using firefox normally. Actual results: After using firefox for a while, the drag and drop functionality for bookmarks stops working. You can not drag the bookmark symbol on the left-hand side of the location bar anymore. Also, you can not drag existing bookmarks to reorder them, neither in the bookmark toolbar nor in the bookmark manager. Expected results: The bookmark drag & drop should stay functional.
I'm experiencing this problem with firefox 6.1 under Debian 6.0.2 (Squeeze), but I have had the same problem before with firefox 3.x running on Ubuntu. Since Ubuntu is Debian-based, it could be a Debian-specific problem, but I've seen someone on the Web complaining about this problem appearing on Windows.
Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
I'm experiencing the same problem with MozillaFirefox-6.0.2-0.2.1.x86_64 on a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4. It never happened on the preceding openSUSE 11.2 system (Firefox 3.5 IIRC). The profile was newly created after the installation three days ago and has seen very little use yet. After starting Firefox, drag and drop works a few times as expected, in bookmark manager as well as bookmark toolbar. When the problem sets in, moving the mouse pointer while holding down the left button doesn't start dragging anymore, but instead just moves the selection, again in both bookmark manager and bookmark toolbar. I found no specific triggering condition, but a few observations: - It seems to start most frequently after doing a drag and drop in the toolbar while the bookmark manager window is open. - On one occurrence, closing and reopening the bookmark manager restored drag and drop functionality. On other occurrences it didn't work again until I restarted Firefox.
Tim, sorry, it didn't reoccur since I filed my bug description, so motivation was very low to follow your suggestions. To the platforms it occurs: as we've learned from Mr. Schmidt, the bug also occurs on rpm-based systems, so it must not be a Debian specific issue. Also, I can not confirm that it appears on Windows from my own experience. I've used firefox as my main browser on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, and the bug never occured. Maybe the problem is Compiz-Fusion related. Mr. Schmidt, could you please tell us if you're running Compiz-Fusion? Or do you have desktop effects on kde4, which probably build on code from compiz? Compiz takes control over various aspects of the desktop, and maybe it also affects drag and drop in some way or another. Currently, I use compiz with trinity and the gtk window decorator. Although the actual compiz runs pretty stable and leaves little to desire, there could always be side effects occuring.
Some info about my graphics environment: - nVidia Geforce 6200TC - nouveau driver - dual screen - Gnome desktop - Compiz installed but not running I never bothered with Compiz, anyway. openSUSE apparently installs it by default, but I just checked in the "Simple CompizConfig Settings Manager" and the "enable desktop effects" option is not set, with the remainder of the dialog greyed out. I also never saw the problem on Microsoft Windows with any version of Firefox.
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0a1) Gecko/20110920 Firefox/9.0a1 Have you attempted to reproduce in safe mode as advised in comment 2?
For me, the bug didn't show up again since I filed this report.
I'll set it to resolved at the moment. If this issue re-occurs, please feel free to re-open and provide extra information if available.
