User Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; en) Presto/2.9.168 Version/11.50 Steps to reproduce: Press Shift and then use keyboard arrows to select collapsed threads in a folder. Actual results: The selection speed keeps decreasing with the number of additional selected items. Expected results: The selection speed should have remained constant, yet it degraded. This worked properly in older Thunderbird releases, before the UI refresh.
Oleg, is it better in safe mode? http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Yes, it is much faster in Safe Mode, however just disabling addons does not make a difference.
(In reply to Oleg Smolsky from comment #2) > Yes, it is much faster in Safe Mode, however just disabling addons does not > make a difference. In that case, does the following help?? - go to the Config Editor. In Thunderbird do Tools → Options (or Preferences) → Advanced → General tab → Config Editor - paste gfx.direct2d.disabled into the filter - double click that entry, to change the value to true - paste layers.acceleration.disabled into the filter - double click that entry, to change the value to true -- if layers.acceleration.disabled does not exist, please create it -- right+click in the preferences area and do New | Boolean | paste layers.acceleration.disabled in to the name -- set to true - restart thunderbird
Hey Wayne, this way is faster, but scrolling looks a little jerky... Also, either case eats lots of CPU...
please define "eats lots of CPU" in terms of a number. please have a look at these performance issues https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems
Created attachment 560556 [details] CPU usage graph Well, a number in vacuum does not mean much :) Here is a graph of scrolling through the list of messages (collapses threads). CPU usage goes up to 25% on dual-core Core2 system.
BTW, this bug is still present in v7 and the workaround in comment 3 helps.
Version: 6 → 7
Oleg is it back to normal with version 9? V9 disables HWA
Yep, it works well (ie quickly) in v9.0.1 on Win7/64.
