With every Firefox update, some users seem to end up restarting with a brand new profile.  I don't know what triggers the installer to reject the existing profile and make a new one but it manifests as near-irrecoverable data loss on the part of the user.

Ooops, hit submit before putting in links:

There are lots of other reports where only one file or another in the profile was broken.  That's probably a different bug.
