When the threadpane is sorted by a cycler column like Junk/Read/Flag/etc., we don't give any visual clue about *which* column the sort is on.
The sort order as such is rather unimportant (is a flag "greater" than no flag?), but the column should at least be marked as "sort happens here".

If tinkering with the cycler column header icons doesn't prove satisfactory, maybe we can alter the background of the sort column like some file managers do.
Columns (even just those which have a few possible states) are not equal in this respect: here are a few examples:
- Clicking the "Tags" column (if present) displays an up- or down-pointing triangle mentioning how the sort happens.
- The "Attachments" column cannot be widened; its header is already filled by the paperclip icon; clicking it sorts on presence/absence of an attachment with no visual sign.
- The "Flag" column has a
- The "Total in Thread" column is not even sortable

oops, clicked "Submit" too quickly.

- The "Attachments" column cannot be widened; its header is already filled by the paperclip icon; clicking it sorts on presence/absence of an attachment with no visual sign.
- The "Flag" column has a different icon, but otherwise it behaves as the "Attachments" column.
- The "Total in Thread" column is not even sortable (it is not listed under "View → Sort by ▶", and clicking it has no effect).

The only "visual clue" for columns like "Flag" and "Attachments" is in which submenus are checked in "View → Sort by ▶".

Mnyromyr, are you willing to act as Mentor for this "good first bug"? And have you an idea which source file(s) would have to be patched? (I suspect one or more of suite/mailnews/mail* but that still leaves many to choose from).
