User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:6.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.2 Build ID: 20110902133214 Steps to reproduce: Downloaded email from POP server. Actual results: In normal operation, on rare occasions (two in last 6 months or so), I have had emails already downloaded "overwrite" the next email that comes in. The heading text and senders are different, but the email content of the later message is replaced by the prior message - even attachments are copied. Haven't found any way to recover the corrupted later email and have to ask sender to re-send. Expected results: Emails should have been separate. In the attached screen dumps the two messages are selected in the upper frames, but the message content in the later email is the same as the previous email.
so basically, body does not match what was selected in the thread pane?
Does repairing the folder helps ? Can you also compact your inbox ?
Thunderbird 7.0.1, Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1 64-bit Sorry, I'm new to this - hope that's sufficient background info. I'd basically like to confirm that today I've had exactly the same error as Barry described. The content of one email was overwritten by the content of the following email. In Thunderbird, the From, Subject, Recipient, and Date fields (i.e. all those I normally display) show correctly but the entire email content and headers are those of the email received immediately before it. In case it's relevant, I had replied to the preceding email but that reply was still in the process of being sent when I opened the email that's now overwritten.
ok can you right click on your inbox then choose compact folder ? and tell us if that helps ? Can you also try to right click and choose properties and then rebuild ?
OK, next time it happens, I'll try these and let you know...
Hmmm - my comments were deleted here when I added an attachment... OK, so this error happened again, with a new email being over-written by an existing email (which has an attachment) - see the screendumps in the file showing the bug and what happened after using "Repair". This is a rare eror, but when it happens, you lose the new email, so is serious. Thanks for any feedback and hope the error file entry helps.
Just lost another email and attachment due to the same bug.
Do you have an anti-virus running ? How big are the mailboxes on the disk ?
Hi Ludovic, yes, I use commercial version of AVG (always have). Mailbox size is probably very large - not sure where to get an accurate figure for that... Barry
(In reply to Barry Nicholson from comment #10) > Hi Ludovic, > yes, I use commercial version of AVG (always have). Mailbox size is probably Did you enable quaratine in tb (sorry don't remember where that is) > very large - not sure where to get an accurate figure for that... > Barry you can see the sizes in your profile http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Profiles
Hi, I don't think this is an AVG issue, as the problem appeared after an upgrade (in 2011), but quarantine is allowed. I have 2 default profiles - one is 5.9GB and the other 3.5GB. Thanks for any help with this annoying bug!
Hum I'm running out of ideas right now. Wayne ?
I've read that the problem is caused by Skyp click to call, which I had installed. I've removed it and waiting to see if it helps - hopefully that is the solution.
Barry, results? (In reply to Barry Nicholson from comment #15) > I've read that the problem is caused by Skyp click to call, which I had > installed. I've removed it and waiting to see if it helps - hopefully that > is the solution.
Well, I had high hopes, but they were dashed when it happened again, about a month later. Haven't seen the issue since then, but it is a rare event anyway. If I get time one day I'll set up a series of sends from an account with attachments and see if I can break it, but just too busy right now. I think it is related to an unusual situation which causes the database to get out of sync - seems to be what the error message is trying to say. In any case, have not found a workaround to recover the data.
This annoying bug bit me again - it is quite serious as I am losing very important attachments. I have decided to set the server to keep messages for 7 days, so if it happens I can get to the original message. The other thought is that, because my files are so big, that I start afresh and basically dump the messages somewhere and re-install.
Do you still see this problem when using version 17 or newer? Newer can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/

Hi, this is a rare problem, but I've had 17 for some time and haven't seen it. I'll send a report if it comes up again.
