If I want to clear cache and/or browsing history, it clears out all settings (most important being the sync configuration).  Once that happens, sync prompts for that action to be un-done but that doesn't work (will file a different bug for that).

Basically, a way to clear private data without clobbering settings would be splendid!
We do plan to add this feature, although we haven't started working on it yet.  In the meantime, see bug 589729 comment 22 for some add-ons that implement it.
