Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0
Build ID: 20110908135051

Steps to reproduce:

Started Firefox normally.

Actual results:

Sometimes when I start Firefox, serveral websites I used in the session before (and closed it) are opened randomly in single Firefox windows.

Expected results:

A clean Firefox w/o any opened tabs should appear (in case all tabs has been closed before the last exit).
What is your preference setting for your homepage -> Tools -> Options -> General -> Startup?

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
It seems that the problem is gone in Safe Mode.

But please note that the issue occurs only sporadically in normal mode (so it the problem could persist even in Safe Mode).
If you go to about:sessionrestore does it list the tabs that are showing up?
I've tested it several times. During this these tests I noticed four different behaviours:

If all tabs were closed in the last sessions:

   (Case 1)
Firefox opens with randomly chosen tabs out of the old session,
varying in the number of opened tabs and content.

   (Case 2)
Firefox opens with about:sessionrestore, showing randomly chosen
websites out of the old session, varying in the number of opened
   tabs and content.

   (Case 3)
   Firefox opens normally.

If some tabs remain open by closing Firefox:

   (Case 4)
Firefox opens normally, restoring the tabs stayed open the last session.

In reply to your question: Firefox does only show some content in about:sessionrestore in case 2.

I can't make a statement for 7.0.1, but it still occurs on Firefox 8.0 beta.
I have also problems with old tabs in Firefox 10.0.2 like in many earlier versions of Firefox :-(

I think it is an old bug - see this:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=495123

I have tried to remember - and for me it happens when I have more than one windows open at the same time, for example if I make a booking in a "pop-up" window or have a music player or a web side with music open in another window.

For me this is a bug - when I have a window with no tabs open and close Firefox I expect a new empty window when I start Firefox again!

A "solution" until the bug is fixed can be to have at least one tab with some content when closing Firefox.

René do you still see this problem?

Yes, at least on one machine with Firefox v26.0.

Problem still persists for me, too
Is this still present in latest Firefox version?

I think I confused this bug. Very sorry. Strike comment 12, please.
I confused it with bug 1235231
I haven't encountered this bug for several years now, so I think it has been fixed coincidentally.

Thanks for checking in, René!
