User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:6.0.2) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.2 Build ID: 20110902133214 Steps to reproduce: enabled search for text when I start typing. opened a pdf and started typing a search Actual results: nothing happened when I started typing. Expected results: Firefox should have started searching for text when I started typing.
Firefox doesn't support PDF. You have to install a plugin that displays PDF files inside the browser window but the browser itself has no idea what's inside the area that is assigned to a plugin. Firefox can't search inside plugin contents.

Oh okay. I just thought it could because Ctrl + f and then typing works.
That is true but the plugin receives the ctrl+f and the search dialog is from the plugin. You should notice the difference in the different search dialog.
