Steps to reproduce:
enabled search for text when I start typing.
opened a pdf and started typing a search
Actual results:
nothing happened when I started typing.
Expected results:
Firefox should have started searching for text when I started typing.

Firefox doesn't support PDF. You have to install a plugin that displays PDF files inside the browser window but the browser itself has no idea what's inside the area that is assigned to a plugin. Firefox can't search inside plugin contents.

Oh okay. I just thought it could because Ctrl + f and then typing works.

That is true but the plugin receives the ctrl+f and the search dialog is from the plugin. You should notice the difference in the different search dialog.
