When we remove a tab in Fennec we send an ipc message to the child so that the page can perform any last minute cleanup/prevent closing/etc. We wait for a return message before finishing the close. With the new portrait tabs menu, we have to listen for this in two places. We should fire an event off after this happens so that we can listen in one place for all tab closing events.

Wes, is this still a valid bug for a new contributor to be working on? In other words, does this still apply to the Native UI, so that the work done won't be wasted?

No, this doesn't apply directly to the new Native Fennec code base.
