Notifications with buttons that open popups should have a chevron to indicate that they open menus.

Hello, Firefox 3.0.1. A page triggered a popup window, so the yellow bar appeared. I want to see the page, so I click on the "Options" button. This shows a sort of local menu. A button giving a local menu is weird user interface. The kind of broken UI you typically see on software coming from Windows. A button does something or brings a dialog, but must not spawn a local menu out of no hook. Usually, local menus are hooked at some place and they have a kind of arrow, so the user knows s/he see a menu which s/he can click. Let's get rid of the "Options" button and make it a true, nice-looking, local menu. Nicolas
This is still a problem in FF9, confirming. There even isn't the usual ellipsis that indicates a submenu (or window) will open. But a down arrow (as in the Firefox button) would be nicer.

Same problem on Firefox 6.0 Mac, with the button called "Préférences".

Nicholas, are you referring to the drop-down menu that appears when you click "Preferences" on a yellow bar? I'm attaching a screenshot, albeit in OSX rather than Windows

I don't have Firefox at hand, but I think the Options button on Windows got named Préférences on Mac. On both platforms, I remember that the UI is awkward, and should be replaced with a true local menu.
I think I would be able to code the ellipsis (...) into the button label. I can't do a menu indicator. Would that be enough?

I do not think that it would be an improvement. A button without ellipsis means an action will occur at click. A button with ellipsis means a dialog will appear at click, allowing for an action to occur. Both are wrong here. The button has to be replaced with a normal local menu, with a triangle.
OK, can you tell if there is such a menu anywhere in Firefox? But not the Firefox button (main menu). Maybe I could copy it.

I agree it would make sense to make this notification button have a downward pointing chevron to indicate that it's actually a menu button. This is true in general, and not just for the popup blocker notification bar.
