setting a style of position:relative; will cause a list item to loose it's little numerator, or what it's called. this is true whether it's <ol> or <ul> i see no reason why they should go away, and opera5 and ie6 beta renders them correctly. i made and example in the url above, and i just downloaded the latest build (2001021505) and it's still there.
It's a bug. However, it has been reported previously as bug 39013.
