What version of Thunderbird do you use? What version of the Provider for Google Calendar extension do you use? Do you see any calendar related messages in Tools > Error Console?

For some reason Lightning was updated at AMO (to 1.0b7), but the Provider for Google Calendar wasn't. AMO's version of the Provider is 0.8, which REQUIRES Lightning 1.0b4 and Thunderbird 5 or SeaMonkey 2.1 - 2.2
The W32 version of the Provider which corresponds to Lightning 1.0b7 (for Thunderbird 7.0a1 to 7.* and SeaMonkey 2.4a1 to 2.4.*) can be found at http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/1.0b7/win32/ (and the corresponding versions for other platforms are found by replacing win32 by something else at the lowest level of the path). Neither Lightning 1.0b7 nor the Provider version mentioned in the present paragraph will work with any other version of Thunderbird or SeaMonkey, not even with a compatibility override.
Stefan, I answer your question next:
- What version of Thunderbird do you use? -> Now, I have the 7.0 version, but the previous version also gave me the error
- What version of the Provider for Google Calendar extension do you use?->Provider for google calendar 0.8, but the problem, I believe, is produced by the lightning not by the calendar. I think this because deactivate the lightning and leave the active calendar and I have no problems. to account, uninstall everything, even the thunderbird, and then, thunderbird install, put the mail accounts, install lightning and again freezes the program when start, with the message: Plugin Manager: mozilla thunderbird (no answer)
- Do you see any calendar related messages in Tools > Error Console? really no, the only way I have of the program to respond again is to enter safe mode (pressing shift) and disabling the lightning.
Pardon my English .... is through google translator
Tony:
I have 2 computers, both with win 7 64 bits, the only difference between the machines is that in one of them I loaded tasks in the task lightning. I think after that thunderbird stopped working
uninstalled and reinstalled thunderbird but the problem continues when instal the lightning

In reply to comment #4 and #5:
The Provider to Google Calendar is an extension to Lightning. It will not be used if you disable Lightning, even if it is still "enabled" in the Thunderbird or SeaMonkey addon manager.
The Provider to Google Calendar should always be used with a _matching_ version of Lightning. Not a version with the same extension version number, but one built from the same state of the source repositories. Does the problem persist if you install the Provider version I mentioned in comment #3 and enable Lightning?
The message you saw should normally appear once if you install the Provider for Google Calendar after one or more Google Calendars are already defined in Lightning as read-only calendars of a different type (such as ICS or CalDAV). This is not an error. After you answer it with yes or no (or the equivalent, maybe checkbox-ticked or checkbox-unticked, etc.) for each calendar in the dialog, then accept the dialog (by clicking [ OK ] or something) it should not bother you again. But as long as the dialog is displayed, Thunderbird is doing nothing else. This is also not an error, because it is waiting on your answer.

I admit I have not updated the provider for this release, mainly because AMO told me that the compatibility is still given. So using Provider 0.8 with Lightning 1.0b7 and Thunderbird 7 isn't really that bad.
I haven't quite understood what the actual problem is. You indeed should get this dialog if you have an ics calendar that provides readonly access to Google Calendar. This dialog is offering you to change these calendars to such using the Provider for Google Calendar, to provide read-write access.
Are you getting some sort of error in this dialog?
Gentlemen, after several trials I understand what the problem is, without add-ons I have no problem with Thunderbird 7, when I install Lightning 1.0b7 (another version of Lightning tells me that is not compatible with Thunderbird 7), without any other supplements or add-ons or anything, Thunderbird freezes.
On the other machine I have work the Thunderbird 7, with win 7 64 bits, Provider 0.8 with Lightning 1.0b7 and everything works fine, like Philipp Kewisch said.
with the previous version of Thunderbird I also felt the same, so upgrade to the Thunderbird 7, uninstalling the old version and reinstalling the new version of Thunderbird and the problem continuos. That's why I think the problem must be somewhere.
I invite you to work on my machine via LogMeIn or Team Viewer, we coordinate a schedule if you agree. regards
Gentlemen, I could make the system work again, the steps I made were the following, disconnect the PC from the network, then start the thunderbird with lightning and provider installed, no problems, no freeze, then went to the calendar and delete tasks that had loaded, then closed everything and reconnected the network, run Thunderbird again and all returned to work without freezing.
As I said earlier, after I load tasks in the calendar or lightning (i dont know where thats load)the system was broken, but not reinstalling or changing version of Thunderbird, or the calendar, or the lightning, thunderbird never returned to work without freezing.
Conclusion, the lightning has a bug in the tasks, try to connect to the internet, and neither does thunderbird freezes.

Huh? I don't understand? Now this is an issue with tasks? What about the dialog asking you to upgrade?

Unfortunately it took me quite some time to understand what was happening, but what I did is what we discussed above:
- the steps I made were the following, disconnect the PC from the network, then start the thunderbird with lightning and provider installed, no problems, no freeze, then went to the calendar and delete tasks that had loaded, then closed everything and reconnected the network, run Thunderbird again and all returned to work without freezing.
If you read a little higher, I had a suspicion that the problem was of tasks, because after that load the system began to fail.
I do not understand why but it worked, now I use the thunderbird with lightning and calendar without freezing the machine. Regards

So the freezing only happens when the dialog shows up? I still am having trouble filtering out the exact issue here.

As of today, 2012-05-18, Lightning can natively subscribe to Google calendar
through CalDAV with the URL
https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/xxxxxxxxx@gmail.com/events
Original poster, do you mind to try the native support to Google calendar? If there's no problem, it's better to close this bug.
PS: Don't forget to sync everything back to Google first, or manually edit things on Google calendar to make it the "source".
