From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; 0.8) Gecko/20010215 BuildID: 2001021508 RFE: A means to easily change the user agent identification string, that is what the browser identifies itself as being to websites. Also an option under preferences to access this feature. So rather than necessarily have 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win95; en-US; 0.8) Gecko/20010215' appear, I could have anything else appear. Reason: this would allow people into sites that block access based on user.. or redirects etc.. Plus there should be options, inbuilt, to mimic certain types of user agent string (to save time). A Mozilla button to get back to how it should be. A mimic NS4 button. A mimic IE5 button. etc... I don't know how much work it'd take to make this thing possible.. definatly not a priority. But if it is an easy simple task... even direction I coudl go to do it myself would be appreciated...
this rfe is already filed, and we already support impersontation (just w/o a gui to change it). mpt probably won't encourage a ui for it.

http://mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html under "useful preferences" lists: // Override the default user-agent string: user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.2.16-22smp i686; en-US; m18) Gecko/20010110 Netscape6/6.5");

I'm surprised I couldn't find a dup either. Adding "GUI to" to the summary
Summary: RFE: change user agent identification string option → RFE: GUI to change user agent identification string option

I'm not saying we should have a GUI ... But if we did, it should be a single GUI for changing the user agent in both HTTP and Javascript at the same time. That dichotomy causes endless confusion amongst iCab users.

This feature is very important! Some strange way even www.ati.com does not like Mozilla. Mozilla Build ID: 2001022311 Output for URL www.ati.com Recommended Browsing Environments Screen Resolution: 800x600, true color (24 bit) Internet Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x or greater Netscape Navigator 4.x We currently we do not support Netscape Navigator 6.x
