Steps to reproduce:

Upgrade to latest Nightly as of yesterday, 29.Sept.2011 with 4 diff OS's and all
had more or less problems getting the icons loaded in the Bookmark's Toolbar.
Win7, Srv2008R2, SBS2011, Ubuntu 11.04,   while Win7 has the biggest error, half of the icons wont load, regardless if I mouseover, click&load, restart, even upgrading again today to latest build didnt bring my icons back.
On Ubuntu it didnt load the "Getting Started" button on a clean fresh install.
WinSRV's and another Win7  didnt load the icons at start but where able to load icon per icon when clicking&loading the website. just 1 Icon wont load, MS-Downloads page that is.   So for now I can say, upon installing most icons are gone, some installations will recover and reload the icons, some just wont.

Used various Add-Ons on those machines,  Xmarks, LastPass, Adblock-Plus ( + AddOn ) but it also did that on clean installs w/o any gimmicks added.

Workaround:  restart with all add-ons disabled and reset bookmarks and rest to Nightly defaults cured the problem.  after loading each icon in a tab they all came back :))

if disabling addons is required it's pretty clear this is due to one of those add-ons and not a Firefox bug. Could you please figure out which addon is culprit and notify its author?

Hey Marco,

as I said in my initial post, it did happen on various installations, Windows and Linux, with AND without AddOns.

The way I fixed it on my own personal device that uses all those extensions
was doing what I added. I also am not exactly sure if the AddOns-disabling mattered
because I also reset firefox to defaults, and I have alot of changes for examples in my icons, i add the printer button, download button etc.  change homepage, security settings...
I did not only stop the Addons, I also reset all those accumulated changes and that did the trick.

I will reinstall scratch Ubuntu 11.04 64bit from ISO in VMware and install the latest Nightly build available at that time, patch it if needed, patch Ubuntu also and see if it this time loads the standard icons which it didnt on the last nightly build,  the "Getting Started" icon was a blank square in plain Ubuntu no addons , scratch install.

I can also throw in a Win7 Ult64 in VMware and see what it does when naked install plus all updates.
