Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110928134238

Steps to reproduce:

Clicking on 'Exit' in the Firefox menu will close out of ALL firefox windows you have open, however clicking on the 'X' button in the top right will only close out of that one window.

Actual results:

I clicked on the 'Exit" menu button on one display, and all instances of firefox I had open across multiple displays closed.

Expected results:

The exit button should behave the same as the 'X' in the top right corner. It even has the 'x' icon on it already, or else it should say something like "completely exit firefox"
Yes, the icons are similar. However, application that allow closing only the current window from the menu call the entry 'close'. Exit or Quit are used for complete closing of the application (all its windows).

Can you find any counter example? In which program 'Exit' closes only the current window?

Thanks so much for filing this bug, residentskitz. It's true that the Firefox menu exit and the X on Windows do different things, and this can seem inconsistent. However, we're taking our model here from operating systems themselves, where closing a window and closing an application are typically handled in this way. While you're right that the command to "close" could be read differently within Firefox, outside of Firefox we're conforming to what we believe users of modern operating systems would expect. I don't think this needs a change.
