Steps to reproduce:
I've tried doing updates with Thunderbird 6.0, or it will automatically try every 24-48hrs.
Actual results:
The update box just sits with the connection bar constantly moving across and no connection is made to the server
Expected results:
It should connect within a few seconds to perform the update without any problems
This never happened with TB 5

Did your internet connection changed between 5 and 6 ?
Are you running AV software ?
Can you give us the error message that leads to what you call an error log ?
No, my internet connection didn't change
No, I'm not running AV software
No, what I wrote in the original message is what I have and I've since changed or upgraded manually to TB 7, which BTW , is a very lengthy proccess and very involved.....it would have been better if the program was doing it's job the right way without all the complications and bugs
