When installing mozilla 0.8 or 0.7 (I haven't checked earlier versions), the install dies after selecting which components to install. I get an error message saying it was unable to load C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\ns_temp\xpcom.ns\bin\xpistub.dll I checked and the file was there. Next, I downloaded M18, which installed fine. Afterwards I tried installing 0.8 again just for kicks, and this time it installed without a problem. Hope this helps. -Ryan
I never heard about this error... Have you tried the latest mozilla installler at: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-win32-installer.exe ? Try to uninstall the files manualy with -u like this: mozilla-installer.exe -u then perhaps even test the .xpi files with: unzip -t *.xpi You said in the end the M0.8 installed fine. So you have no problems now?
This seems to be a machine-specific problem. I stayed late today and installed mozilla 0.8 (using the same file) on a number of other Win95 machines on the LAN, and it worked fine on all of them, although I was able to duplicate the problem on my specific computer. Perhaps bad blocks on the hard drive, or something else, but it doesn't seem to be related to the installer after all. Sorry! -Ryan
