Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1
Build ID: 20110928134238

Steps to reproduce:

Running firefox 7.0.1 on mac osx 10.6.8. I chose Close from the Firefox menu and the entire screen goes blank (actually green). On Macbook Pro. This does not always happen, and so far has only happened when closing from the Menu. Choosing Quit from the Doc has not yet caused this problem.

Actual results:

The screen goes blank. I can hit the volume keys and hear the volume go up or down, but nothing else seems to work. I cannot fix this and must force power off the Macbook. The entire Mac desktop is no longer visible.

Expected results:

Firefox should have closed.

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile

Please post the graphics section from about:support

I will do more testing later and explore safe mode and an empty profile.

Safe Mode did not help, but the new profile did help. I have not seen the shutdown issue yet.

I need to revive this issue. I got the same problem again last night. I am still running Firefox 7.01 and OS X 10.6.8. I am still using the new profile I created on 2011-10-08. I had firefox open in the background and iTunes running in the foreground. iTunes was updating a large app file. I decided to switch to firefox to close it. I chose Quit from the menu bar, and immediately got a completely blue screen with no way to recover except to hard reset the MacBook Pro.

WFM on Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:8.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0.1

Have you tried to upgrade Firefox to the last version?
