Thunderbird seriously needs an option to allow the user to specify the font and size for various user interface items. A quick and dirty alternative would be to give the user a zoom setting that they could apply, similar to the Ctrl ++ but as a saved option.

Get satisfaction is littered with complaints about Thunderird UI font size. There is no current solution other than custom CSS witch is beyond the skills of a great many users so they go away unhappy. This inability to scale the UI or specify font size is of particular interest to older users as eye sight deteriorates with age.

While this issue is mostly the result of extremely high screen resolutions, that has become the norm, but the UI has not kept pace.
Having a UI for basic chrome parameters should probably apply to all platforms and not just to Windows, though strictly speaking it's a theme issue (but then, a UI for modifying those is asked for here). Modifying DPI has global impact and may not be what the user wants either.

since this bug was filed the Theme and font size changer add-on has been released which covers most of this ground.

NEW! The Theme and font size changer add-on has been made obsolete by the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird.... With the creation of higher resolution screens, the fonts selected by the Mozilla system gurus sadly do not meet many users needs. The 'Interface Fonts' are those that appear in Toolbars and other System items. We, the users, need the ability to change those (and the need is more critical the older we get!).

In Calibre, under Preferences --> Look & Feel --> Interface Font, the user can select the font size necessary to provide a good experience. That is great!

In Mozilla, Toolbar fonts CANNOT be seen at a glance as the are TOO SMALL!

Therefore, Theme and Font Changing NEEDS to be built into the core system.
