Instead of applying updates into the Program Files directory, this task is to apply updates to an alternate directory, then after it is applied to swap the folder in for the old not updated folder. 

Once it is swapped in correctly delete the old folder.

Why, out of curiosity? Just to delay the point where you need to elevate privileges?
This way the update could be applied to the copy while Firefox is running and then the original could be renamed and the new one renamed to the original so the update would have less of an affect on startup.
