i use the little icon to the right of all the columns to selectively display only certain columns. when i quit out of mozilla, these preferences are not saved, and i have to reset them evertime i start up. the same thing happens when i use view->my sidebar to get rid of that hideous thing. my guess is that this is a bug, and the UI specifies these settings should be saved. if that's not the case, then i would request a new feature, cause i'm really getting tired of reconfiguring mozilla everytime i start up.
I ran into a similar problem a while ago on Mac. I think it turned out that one of the RDF files was corrupted--localstore.rdf or panels.rdf, I don't remember which.

I got an email from ben saying: "this bug report is a bug itself. i observed this behavior on a copy of mozilla 0.8 that i had installed over netscape 6.01. when i deleted Documents/Mozilla/ and started afresh, it no longer appeared. <...> could you lease inform the other developers to not look for this bug? ben" Should we mark this invalid per bugreporters advise?

since i've got your attention, i'll pose a question: given that both mozilla and netscape rely on the same folder (/Documents/Mozilla/), is it possible to install both netscape 6.01 AND mozilla 0.8 on the same machine, for purposes of cross-browser testing of code? my guess is that this is currently not possible, and that the easiest solution would be for the netscape people to use /Documents/Nescape instead.
