User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0.1
Build ID: 20110831062634

Steps to reproduce:

I upgraded to firefox 7.0.

Actual results:

I started firefox and it slowed my machine to a crawl and I had to wait for 2 minutes until I could switch to a terminal and kill the process.

Expected results:

It should have worked like 6.0.
Please provide more technical information.
What happened ?
- Firefox used 100% CPU
- your x server used 100% CPU
- Firefox allocated all available memory
- something else

Did you try http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode to rule out installed extensions and the hardware acceleration ?
Any progress with FF 9 or 10? They have much better memory management.
