It's that time again. We need support for Firefox 9 both in the markup and the UI so that we can draft articles.
Can we start hiding old versions from the drop down, maybe 4, 5, 6?
I would love to but I think we may need to add a message telling people they need to upgrade - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=651230 otherwise they'll just see wrong instructions and not know why.

I don't want to remove the versions, just hide them. Keep in mind that {for fx4} means "for Firefox 4 and higher", so if they show up with Firefox 4, they will see content for 4 and up, but not for 5 and up, for example. Not sure how that leads to wrong instructions?
In the past, we added support for Fx 7 and forgot to add it to the dropdown. Without it in the dropdown, we weren't able to see fx 7 content even though we were viewing it with Fx 7 - it fell back to the site default. I was assuming something like that would happen. You'd have Fx 4 but would be shown the default (lets say Fx 7). So yes, anything written for 4+ would be fine but it you were on an article where something had changed since fx 4, you'd see the Fx 7 version.
(In reply to Verdi from comment #4) > In the past, we added support for Fx 7 and forgot to add it to the dropdown. We didn't forget, we deliberately didn't add 7 to the dropdown because it wasn't in Beta yet. > Without it in the dropdown, we weren't able to see fx 7 content even though > we were viewing it with Fx 7 - it fell back to the site default. That is a bug. The solution was to work around it by making these things all visible all the time, but that isn't the only thing we can ever do. We should fix the bug. We already have a drop down with 6 things in it, when we only support 3 of those, officially. This is just as unsustainable as the "Relevant To" list, if we can never hide old versions.

I added the comment to the old version upgrade message today because I was thinking that we have to start removing things from the dropdown. I agree that it's a mess.
Going to add 9 here and filed a follow up (bug 693614) to investigate/fix the old version issue so we can hide the old ones.

(In reply to Rebecca Billings from comment #10) > Verified {for} and dropdown for FF9 works Where can I see this? I check support.allizom.org and I only see up to fx 8 in the dropdown.
(In reply to Verdi from comment #11) > Where can I see this? In Firefox 9 Aurora, because it's hidden in other Firefox versions according to bug 693614.
The Fx 9 drop-down is displayed in Fx 7 with https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/ installed and the UA set to Fx 9.
